Dear Jim Tangeman Center families,
I am thrilled to have the opportunity to be principal at Jim Tangeman Center. I am very familiar with working with students with self-regulation and mental health needs. I have worked in residential and day treatment settings as a therapeutic staff, worked as a school psychologist in the Evergreen School District for nine years (the last four were at their day treatment school), and spent the last three years as a principal at Wheatley School in Portland (students with cognitive and communication delays who exhibit negative behaviors). I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with you and your child now.
It has been my experience that when home and school work together in supporting students, those children make gains that are more significant and meaningful. As such, my expectation for my teachers is that they are communicating daily the accomplishments of your child, in the manner that is best for you. Either by phone, note or email. The purpose of this is to establish two-way communication between home and school, where information about the child can be shared that might affect the student’s behavior at home or school. These items can include a visit with a family member, not sleeping well, a medication change, great score on a test, challenge with a peer, etc.
My team and I look forward to building positive relationships with our students and their families. If we can assist you in any way, please let us know.
